JOHN 15:4 — REMAIN IN CHRIST

“Abide in me, and I in you.”
— John 15:4

This verse is the heart behind the name RIX — Remain In Christ.

The Greek word translated “abide” is μένω — menō.

Strong’s Greek G3306 gives the meaning as:

to remain, abide, stay, continue, dwell, endure.

In John 15:4, the actual form is μείνατε — meinate.

It is an imperative.

Jesus is not merely describing something pleasant that happens to Christians.

He is giving a command:

Remain in Me.

Stay in Me.

Continue in Me.

The Greek begins:

μείνατε ἐν ἐμοί — meinate en emoi

Literally:

Remain in Me.

That is stronger than simply saying, “Believe something about Me.”

A branch does not visit the vine occasionally.

It remains connected to it.

Jesus continues:

“As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”
— John 15:4

The word for branch is κλῆμα — klēma, Strong’s G2814: a branch, shoot, or twig.

The word for fruit is καρπός — karpos.

And the picture is simple:

A branch has no life in itself.

It does not produce fruit by trying harder to look like a healthy branch.

Its life comes from remaining connected to the vine.

The same is true for us.

Christianity is not merely:

“I believed once.”

“I attended church.”

“I know Christian doctrine.”

“My family is Christian.”

Jesus says:

Remain in Me.

The Christian life is continued dependence upon Christ.

When we succeed, remain in Christ.

When we suffer, remain in Christ.

When we are tempted, remain in Christ.

When we sin, repent and return to Christ.

When people disappoint us, remain in Christ.

When churches, pastors, cultures, and institutions change, Christ remains the vine.

And notice the second part:

“and I in you.”

John 15 is not describing a distant relationship with God.

It is describing fellowship, dependence, and life flowing from Christ into those who remain in Him.

This is why RIX Church is built around John 15.

Not simply:

Believe in Christ once.

But:

Remain in Christ.

Stay with Him.

Continue with Him.

Depend upon Him.

And bear fruit because your life remains connected to Him.

“He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit.”
— John 15:5

RIX — Remain In Christ.
